Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is a reproductive technique used to help couples who have fertility problems, especially due to sperm factors. The procedure involves the placement of one sperm that has been selected by an embryologist using a microscope with a magnification of 400x, where one sperm cell is injected into 1 mature and normal egg using a microscopic needle. ICSI technique is often used in couples who have fertility problems caused by poor sperm count, motility, or shape.
After the ICSI procedure, the embryo will be cultured for several days (3-5 days) in an incubator in the laboratory. The best embryo will be selected for embryo transfer or embryo freezing.
