The process of freezing eggs is almost the same as the process of freezing sperm and embryos using a specific medium containing cryoprotectant, then stored in liquid nitrogen at a temperature of -196C. Before the eggs are frozen, the eggs obtained from the ovum pick-up process must be cultured so that the frozen eggs are only mature and normal eggs. Frozen eggs can be stored for years and can be used at any time when the woman is ready to get pregnant.
There are several indications that cause eggs to be frozen, including women who will undergo chemotherapy/radiation therapy, couples who do not get sperm on the day of the IVF ovum pick-up, and unmarried women who want to delay the aging of their eggs.
